Pharrell assures us that Miley Cyrus’ upcoming album won’t be “that hip-hop,” but with additional producers like Future in her corner, the former Disney Star definitely seems bound to showcase a new side of her personality.

Miley previously told MTV news that she and Future linked up for a studio session where no pen and papers were used and the atmosphere felt more like a party. Future confirmed this when we caught up with him on Wednesday in Los Angeles, explaining that he works off the vibe of an artist, without ever needing to write things down.

I never write. I usually just look at the artist’s face and when I’m saying certain things, I see what moves them, so [there's] never no paper in the studio,” he explained. “It’s always me freestyling, [being] free-spirited, vibing and tryna pick her brain to see what she likes and what she don’t like. See what she’s going through by just having different conversations.

From the conversation, I pretty much know where your life is at and where you wanna take the music,” he added.

The details of Miley’s relationship and personal life have been a fixture of the gossip sites lately — in addition to the fascination with her twerkin’ obsession — so the music they recorded together contains a little bit of everything, according to Future.

We got a lot of great records, and it all came from conversation and having a nice vibe,” the Atlanta rapper told us. “Whenever she allowed me in her personal life through conversation, I tried to take that vibe and go to the booth. I told her, ‘You’ve gotta embrace your fears. If something’s bothering you, you’ve gotta run toward it. If you’re crying about it, you need to cry till you can’t cry anymore. If you try to hold it back, then it’s gonna eat you up. But if you embrace [it], the music moves.

And as the pop star opened up, the music took on a life of its own. “The songs I did with her [are] very touching. Certain days it’s about money, partying and vibing and some days [it's about needing] somebody to stand by you and hold you down,” Future explained. “Certain days you wanna know if the love that you’re with is really true, and one song we got is basically around all those subject matters.

Miley was thrilled about her sessions with Future, noting how impressed she was at his versatility with music, which meant a lot to the Atlanta-based rapper/producer. “It means I’m doing the right thing,” he said. “Staying outside the box and not getting caught up in a certain lane. I can play in all different lanes and it just allows me to keep being the future. … They don’t call me Future for no reason.
